I am writing a paper about "Englishes". There is an uncountable number of research about this topic with many different topics. My topic is the influence from the L1 on the L2 and vice-verse and its results related to cross-linguistic and interlanguage. It is really interesting because I never thought about to write something about these topics.
Although I am a non-traditional freshman, I must to do everything as a traditional student. So I also have classes as History (I love it! Much more than I ever could imagine!). I'm involved with a lot of readings and each reading let me anxious to the next and next and next ... (Yeah! I unfortunately have not enough time to read and study all the things I want to.) This morning I was doing some research and I had a kind of epiphany moment when I found this picture:
In a superficial way I could say that it is just a funny picture with two men talking about difference between Englishes, but there is so many things in a deeper way ... I am not really sure about the author's idea (I don't know who is the author, but I know he or she likes George Orwell!). I don't know if the author uses Englishes focuses only on British and American English, or if he/she tells about "Standard English" and all other Englishes around the World. I really assume that he/she only refers to British and American once he/she puts Orwell himself talking to an American as shown.
He/she also inserts Orwell's elements as "The moon under water" (Orwell's idea of a perfect pub - and they are in a pub!) and the sentence "All Englishes are equal, but some Englishes are more equal than others!". An analogy to the original Orwell' sentence: "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others" from Orwell's book Animal Farm.
There is so many insights coming to my mind right now ...
